This is the first composition Brahms completed after the 1-year-long composing break after the death of his mother.
This instrumental version is in the original key (E flat major), just like all other Brahms songs here. PDF music is meanwhile released:

This sonata managed to become so far the only standard piece by František Hertl in a double bassist's repertory. Thank you for your lovely playing. Early on I guess you may have been a bit nervous and tight in your muscles as the vibrato seemed manically fast. Later in your vibrato changed speed to match the relative intensity of the music you were playing.

I was working in the past years all the time on vibrato and I have completely changed the philosophy of it. Yes, I am fluently adapting it to the content
I can control vibrato since many years and I get it working exactly as planned. On my earliest UA-cam videos done with the old instrument, the vibrato sounds more intense in the recording than it seemed from my position. But I've learned to deal with that 😎

Beautiful playing!!!! I know you probably get this question a lot, but I was wondering what string you use to tune high up without breaking it?
I am using handmade gut strings by the string maker from Berlin, Gerold Genssler. These strings are made fir this tuning. It is only the highest string (high C) one extra string that one needs, the others are standard: G, D, A

@@sunnylin7956 the idea is very old, it has origins in the age of baroque, violone (predecessor of double bass) had high strings. Double bass society just preferred to stick with low tunings for solo playing. Unlike that, E-bassists are much more open-minded and use higher tunings a lot for solo passages. I think it will change also with double bassists
